General Chat / Carbon build up on GDI engines

Hi folks, been reading a lot about carbon build up on direct injection engines lately (GDI) and as I've just bought a car with one of these, have been doing a bit of research. This guy on YouTube seems to do a pretty good job of explaining the problem, see linky:

Interestingly, he mentions at the end of the video, (at 14min 24sec) that this is far more common with larger engines and slower revving engines, which ties in with what I've seen, eg: lots of US based owners with 2.5 - 4 litre engines having issues.
Luckily mine is a smaller engine, so hopefully will not have too many issues.

General Chat / Hyundai service plans, are they worth it?

Hi all, looking for opinions from people who use the Hyundai service plans.

Are they a good deal?

What exactly is included?

I'm currently looking at taking out either a three or a four year service plan. For me three years would be £727 and four years would be £1200 ish, (including MOTs).

Just looked on the Hyundai website at the service plans and its a bit ambiguous about what exactly is covered, the T&C's mention "meeting the service costs" (I know this includes both parts and labour).

But, does that mean just scheduled service items or does it include anything extra that may come up, eg: say if the cam chain needs adjusting, or if an item is identified as having a fault or requiring a repair is noted during a service or similar things?

Are the people that have these plans happy with them, or have they had any issues?

General Chat / Remote key fob only works when the key is removed

The lock button on the remote key fob for my 2023 Kona EV stopped working a few days ago. I had a chance to look at it just now, and it actually works when the physical key is removed. Put the key back in, and it stops working again. The key slot is a bit too narrow to start poking things down to try and clean it out, like a cotton bud to clean out any liquid thats gotten inside. But then it still wouldn't work when the key is removed if that were the case.

Any thoughts on what could be the problem?
