XG30 gearbox sensor
« on: June 02, 2020, 15:15:23 »
Hi All,

I'm new to this site. I have one of the last running XG30s in the UK and it must be one of the best. However, it is 20 years old now and has a few electrical gremlins, most of which are minor, like self locking itself whenever it feels like it!

The worst problem I have is the gearbox keeps deciding to go into 3rd and staying there, causing the engine warning light to come on. We have traced this to the input speed sensor, so I bought a new one from the USA and had it fitted. It didn't work.

My mechanic has run out of ideas. The problem seems to be electronic as the gears otherwise are all fine when it is behaving.

If anyone has ever worked on one of these and dealt with a similar problem, I'd be grateful to hear how you solved it.

Thanks
Simon

does the engine light flash a code? is this why the input speed sensor was replaced? has the tone wheel the sensor reads off been looked at for corrosion or missing teeth?
it stays in 3rd gear as that's what the gearbox does when it goes into limp mode.

best bet is taking it to a gearbox specialists. i no it doesn't help much

Thanks for reply. Yes it came up with a fault code P0715 which indicated the input sensor at fault and that’s why we replaced it.
I don’t know if the tone wheel has been looked at. I will check with the garage.

I think you may be right that I need to take a trip to a gearbox specialist.

Ok, thanks. Interested to hear what you find. I have taken the car off the road for the time being and would like it back on it asap.
