Changing tyres when car has low pressure monitor

This may seem a stupid question to those who understand how it works, but if my car (i20 Premium) has the low tyre pressure monitor, does this affect my being able to get tyres changed at any tyre stockist or do I have to go to Hyundai?

The special "radio" valves will be transplanted by the tyre dealer.

TPMS batteries last a nominal 5 years and then the whole valve sensor has to be changed - on some cars including recoding - the time does depend on use, particularly the time driven, rather than miles driven.

If you're close to the 5 years, it may be worth getting new ones anyway - ebay is a good source, even for genuine ones.

Lucky I found this thread, I was just wondering the same thing about the i30 but I'm guessing the same concept applies and I won't have to take it into Hyundai

Just make sure the tyre dealer and the tyre fitter actually doing the work, especially for any national and independent chain, are aware the car is fitted with TPMS valves before they just try to yank the valves out to deflate the tyre!! Should be obvious but........................

If you search for "TPMS site:uk" on google you should find a supplier of generic TPMS sensors that can emulate most of the ones out there. eg:

(I have no connection nor have I used them).

One option is to clone the sensor ID if you can get the sensors out of the tyres (it's written on the sensor) or borrow a generic TPMS reader tool - that way your new sensors will appear to be the same as the old ones and no relearn or reprogramming is required.

I have also noticed tools for around £200 that claim to activate TPMS and even allow ECU programming via the ODB-II socket.

no it's the same process of tyre changing. could be worth letting them know you have TPS sensors. have the same system on my renault and have tyres changed no problem
