Alloy wheel insurance and dent and scratch insurance
« on: September 28, 2019, 10:01:04 »
Hi all
Tidyalloys do a real good deal on alloy and scratch and dent insurance for a 3 year deal.
My question is why do I have to notify my main car Insurance every time I make a claim on this seperate cover.
Can they find out etc, I dont see how it's got anything to do with them as it's only cosmetic repairs.
Naturally this would put my premiums up annually. Is it better to just get the repairs if any done as and when so there is no record of it anywhere?

Your thoughts are most welcome

You haven't said why you think you have to do this, is it something the wheel insurance has told you you have to do?

Hi Kona
The dent and scratch side of it, Tidyalloys said officially you have to inform your main car insurance. He didnt mention the alloy side of things. He did also mention that they dont personally give out details to insurers but it must be logged on a central database?
When you look online it says the same thing. I cant see the point of having it if it will put your premiums up on renewal. Especially if your allowed lots of claims over 3 years.
Wondered if anyone has used this type of cover and did it affect their premiums.

"Tidyalloys said officially you have to inform your main car insurance. "

Quite honestly anything with this kind of caveat is best avoided imo

There are plenty of mobile alloy repair companies out there i would just get it done when required, you may never have to use them.

Hi kona
True, but it was only £120 for 3 years, I'm guessing it's nearly that for one visit. That's for 10 times too.
But I'm not lining the pickets of my main insurance company that's for sure.
Thanks for all the advice.

Just had a look at Tidyalloys and 3 years on Premium Package is £199 for 3 years with up to £200 per claim.
I'm thinking with damage, these polished diamond cut wheels its likely to cost nothing short of that, surely?

Yea I toyed with the idea of using them, their dent insurance is reasonable too.

I'm toying with the idea but thinking will it happen more than once in three years?

Decided against alloy wheels insurance as we both tend to park perpendicular whenever possible. Last and only incident was six years ago costing £65.  But now considering the Cosmetic Insurance for the same price/period.

The dent and scratch insurance?
Again I was tempted, just the idea that technically you are supposed to inform your main insurance company each time you claim.
This is what the cosmetic insurance said, though they dont hand over personal details so not sure how they would find out.

Of concern is;

"Weatherproofed and Disguised: means a repair
technique which can be applied only to a Chip. The
repair will not restore the damaged area back to its original
condition as it is limited to a paint touch-in to protect the
area from further damage or corrosion. Damage will
remain slightly visible.

I'm still looking for "You are supposed to inform your main insurance company each time you claim."

Tell your existing insurer about any ‘cosmetic’ claims
You might think claiming on another policy won’t affect your main car cover; but that’s not necessarily the case. Keeping quiet about claims or incidents on the cosmetic front could cause problems with your regular insurer.

The AA’s Ian Crowder says drivers should ‘disclose all claims and incidents to their insurer, while Vanessa Chance from LV= says if you have an accident, incident or claim involving your car, you are "normally required to tell your insurer regardless of whether you make a claim or not". If a customer does not disclose this information when asked, this could invalidate their insurance policy.

Tidy alloys actually told me this but I found this, hope it helps
